NEWS 2015
USSR Spent a Billion Dollars on Psychotronics
http://nypost.com/2013/12/28/the-soviet-union-spent-1-billion-on-mind-control-programs/
The race to put man on the Moon wasn’t enough of a battle for the global super powers during the Cold War.
At the time, the Soviet Union and the United States were in an arms race of a bizarre, unconventional kind – that has been exposed in a new report.
Beginning in 1917 and continuing until 2003, the Soviets poured up to $1 billion into developing mind-controlling weaponry to compete with similar programs undertaken in the United States.
While much still remains classified, we can now confirm the Soviets used methods to manipulate test subjects’ brains.
The paper, by Serge Kernbach, at the Research Centre of Advanced Robotics and Environmental Science in Stuttgart, Germany, details the Soviet Union’s extensive experiments, called “psychotronics”. The paper is based on Russian technical journals and recently declassified documents.
The paper outlines how the Soviets developed “cerpan”, a device to generate and store high-frequency electromagnetic radiation which was used to affect other objects.
“If the generator is designed properly, it is able to accumulate bioenergy from all living things – animals, plants, humans – and then release it outside,” the paper said.
The psychotronics program, known in the US as “parapsychology”, involves unconventional research into mind control and remote influence – and was funded by the government.
With only limited knowledge of each other’s mind-bending programs, the Soviets and Americans were both participating in similar secret operations, with areas of interest often mirroring the other country’s study.
The psychotronics project draws similarities to part of the controversial program MKUltra in the US. The CIA program ran for 20 years, has been highly documented since being investigated in the 1970s and was recently dramatized in the 2009 movie “The Men Who Stare at Goats.”
Scientists involved in the MK Ultra program researched the possibility of manipulating people’s minds by altering their brain functions using electromagnetic waves. This program led to the development of pyschotronic weapons, which were intended to be used to perform these mind-shifting functions.
The illegal research subjected humans to experiments with drugs, such as LSD, hypnosis and radiological and biological agents. Shockingly, some studies were conducted without the participant’s knowledge.
Kernbach’s paper on the Soviet Union’s psychotronics program fails to mention one thing – the results. He also doesn’t detail whether there are ongoing mind-control programs in the US or Russia, but there are suspicions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made mention of futuristic weaponry last year in a presidential campaign article.
“Space-based systems and IT tools, especially in cyberspace, will play a great, if not decisive role in armed conflicts. In a more remote future, weapon systems that use different physical principles will be created (beam, geophysical, wave, genetic, psychophysical and other types of weapons). All this will provide fundamentally new instruments for achieving political and strategic goals in addition to nuclear weapons,” he wrote.
The newly declassified information outlined in the report only touches on the Soviet psychotronics program and the bizarre experiments undertaken. With so much information still classified, will we ever know the whole truth?

"SEMPER OCCULTUS"
MRU DECLASSIFIED:
Dr. Carl Schleicher, Founder/Director; Charles W. Stone, Deputy Director

DEEP COVER: Rising to the Equation
"We were 'noetic' before noetic was cool."
Iona Miller on Mankind Research Foundation;
MRU Spy-entists, Spooks, Kooks & Flukes
Frontier Science: In over 30 years of borderland explorations many unique individuals came through the doors of MRU to share their knowledge, gifts, and experiments in the pioneering days of parapsychology, consciousness studies and complementary or integrative medicine.
Innovation: Just because paranormal phenomena is controversial is no reason to reject systematic study of objective and subjective anomalous experience. Trance, yoga, meditation and superhuman performance, intuitive and extraordinary experience all extend our ideas about our limits and potential. Extraordinary abilities may be part of our inherent genius. And the search for 'cosmic energy' and applications didn't stop there. The whole universe lies within the realm of consciousness. All things are simply connected. We embody both the pain and the possibility of transcendence.
PSI Exploration: Can psychic powers be used for detrimental purposes? What are the limits of psychic ability? Psionics is not concerned with the truth value of psychic functioning, but with the practical utility, consistency, magnitude and reliability of psi effects in the real world. Can behavior and state change be manipulated over distances? MRU alumni continue exploring their respective research subjects. Biomechanical interface is among the developments making the impossible possible. Perhaps the best is yet to come.

RISING TO THE EQUATION
MRF
Precursor Technologies: MRU explored many precursor technologies which had not yet come into their own as the support tech to actualize usable results was not yet in place. First attempts at creating radical technologies are naturally intuitive and experimental and may require many revisions and upgrades before usable methods for new technologies are formulated and codified. Ideas and technology "convolve" toward their realization. Process philosophy (or ontology of becoming) identifies metaphysical reality with change and dynamism. We can call this Process Metaphysics.
Process Metaphysics: The philosophy of process is a venture in metaphysics, the general theory of reality. Its concern is with what exists in the world and with the terms of reference in which this reality is to be understood and explained. Metaphysics provides a cogent and plausible account of the nature of reality at the broadest, most synoptic and comprehensive level. Process philosophy allows us to characterize, describe, clarify and explain the most general features of the real in its own characteristic way. Natural existence is best understood in terms of processes rather than things — of modes of change rather than fixed stabilities. For processists, change of every sort — physical, organic, psychological — is the pervasive and predominant feature of the real. A sequentially structured sequence of successive stages or phases has three factors:
Conceptual Insight: Even befuddled attempts to find protocols or solutions can eventually lead to nonlinear dynamic results. Irresolution at any point in development does not mean that avenue should be rejected. Phenomenological investigation by its very nature must proceed in the dark or at least in the twilight of consciousness to formulate conceptual insight. But there is a vast difference between transcendental idealism and a scientific Theory of Everything.
Intuitive and Counterintuitive Realities: Many new physics and/or esoterically-based theories and propositions seem counterintuitive, contrary to an intuitive belief or to common-sense expectations, when assessed using intuition or gut feelings.Scientifically discovered, objective truths are often called counterintuitive when intuition, emotions and other cognitive processes outside of deductive rationality interpret them to be wrong. However, the subjective nature of intuition limits the objectivity of what to call counterintuitive because what is counter-intuitive for one may be intuitive for another. Flawed understanding of a problem may lead to counter-productive behavior with undesirable outcomes. In some such cases, counterintuitive policies may then produce a more desirable outcome. Many scientific ideas that are generally accepted by people today were formerly considered to be contrary to intuition and common sense.
Creative Dynamics: The creative process moves forward in increments as well as quantum leaps of powerful imaginations. Emotionally-charged themes drive the scientific process, de-limiting old models leading to new paradigms. As humans we can only strive for perfection, completeness and correctness in our comprehensions
and writings because we ourselves are limited and imperfect. MRU was among the first organizations to de-limit scientific conceptualization and consider the active, intentional role of the self, consciousness and extraordinary human potential in the scientific process. Unobservable cognitive states gives rise to intuitive-type states and perceptions. In the 21st Century, we are moving toward hyper-realities of full immersion, which re-define the experiential nature of reality.
Complexity: There is another critical aspect to the nature of consciousness which is akin to the difficulty of discovering the theory of everything for the universe, and is so precisely because the conscious brain is the ultimate expression of the four forces of nature derived from the symmetry-breaking of the theory of everything. It requires all the forces acting in order of their symmetry-breaking energies to develop molecular matter, and their most complete complex interactive expression we know of is in the human brain.
Entanglement: If the brain uses exotic properties of physics, embracing quantum entanglement in brain states in generating subjective consciousness as part of anticipating future risks to survival, these would be the ultimate interactive structures generated by the symmetry-breaking of the forces of nature in the universe. Understanding consciousness would then place it as the hard problem complementing the theory of everything, which would require at least as much ingenuity to resolve and therefore cannot be underestimated in the surprises we may find within it.
Consciousness: Critical to the investigation of consciousness is that it is existentially completely different from the
objective physical world description, being experienced directly only by the subject, and not being subject to the same criteria of replicability a physical world experiment has. Also the observer cannot control their consciousness objectively in the same manner a physical experimentalist can their equipment, because any attempt to change consciousness carries the observer into a new conscious situation as well. In this respect the exploration of consciousness has similarities to quantum measurement. This renders all forms of introspection made as if we are looking at consciousness objectively, completely, or partially invalid. (King, 2010)
ScienceArtists: MRU did not emerge from a cultural vacuum. The inexplicable is always in vogue. MRU was preceded by shamanism, prophecy, Mesmer, divination, Theosophy, martial arts, spiritualism (Journal of the Society for Psychical Research), faith healers and mediums, Freud and Jung, Edgar Cayce, Reich, Tesla, 1950's mind control experiments both by the US (MK Ultra) and Soviets, the ESP work of J.B. Rhine, the 1960s psychedelic revolution, the occult revival and the experiential therapies of the human potential movement. All tried to find the science behind the Mystery and applications of spiritual technology. This radical fusion of esoterics and science produced a hybrid practitioner that often drew more from art and intuition than objective rationality, even in the pursuit of pure science. It gave new meaning to the rapidly transforming notion of Reality.
Technical Mystics: Are psychic powers mental energies? Who hasn't had hunches, premonitions, instincts or intuitions that affect behavior? The mystic arts combined with scientific protocols gave an edge to SpecOps supersoldiers in the field for heightened performance and decision-making and acquiring information. Self-regulation techniques from meditation, yoga and martial arts have tangible effects on performance. The psi warrior was born. The technical esoteric nature of many of MRU's investigations necessarily meant they became explorations in the nature and effects of meta-beliefs in relation to the unbound self. Still, sexy science and good science are not necessarily synonymous.
Meta-Beliefs: The entire enterprise, which mainstreamed as the New Age movement, can be examined for its psychological valence. Self-limiting ideas may indeed be constricting, truncating awareness and perception of subtle dynamics, which though unseen can be enormously influential. Stanley R. Dean, M.D. worked with MRU in the biophysical aspects of wholism, metapsychiatry, social psychiatry, the ultraconscious, self-help groups, schizophrenia and the interface of psychiatry and mysticism.
Fuzzy Thinking: Without scientific exploration we cannot draw the line between an anomalous phenomenon and self-delusion. Power lies in beliefs, emotional intelligence and empathy. The power within is activated by belief and acceptance. Failed premonitions and predictions are a natural part of psi research, as are faulty hypotheses. Failed predictions are part of the process and have to be embraced if psi predictions are to occur at all. We cannot second guess and doubt our predictions if we want our future ones to be of any use to us. Self censoring can kill psi ability in a very short time.
Delimitation: We have to apply a sort of binocular vision as both scientist and mystic to penetrate the ultimate ground of nature and our nature. Quantum physics has become more mystical in its expression of universal truths. Naturally, there were many blind alleys and tunnel visions among the legitimate discoveries. Scientists are not exempt from exotic beliefs, especially ones rooted in personal experiences which become framed esoterically and reinforced by the biased beliefs of colleagues. Both inner and outer work are necessarily characterized by clarifying experimentation.
Thinktank: Applications of those discoveries and techniques are another layer of experimentation, often intensely personalistic, if not idiosyncratic. Does immersion in such an open-minded worldview lead to enhanced perception or merely the perception of such an arc? That the niche remains fascinating is evidenced by increasing public interest in the paranormal. Many people experience synchronistic events or felt-sense or anomalous cognition under certain conditions, but such phenomena are difficult to reproduce in the lab.. In this sense, MRU was a pathfinding research group, an intimation of things to come. But demonstrations of conscious thoughts changing physical time and space remain elusive.
Dark Matters: Depending on our inclinations, we view such frames as 'intentionality' as mind over matter manipulation of reality or merely a postmodern form of wishful thinking. If mind and matter share the more fundamental primordial Consciousness, the notion becomes more plausible as a false dichotomy like wave/particle. But is consciousness a quality of the absolute Zero-point Aether or absolute space that underlies all spacetime dimensions, and is the total cosmos is a hologram (including the fields of mind and memory)? We don't know because there is still no consensus in physics. But the theory of intentionality suggests the stronger the image implanted in the mind, the stronger the presumed positive effects. Can Zero-Point consciousness (awareness, will, qualia, etc.) connect with the holograms carried by the higher order mind-memory fields in hyperspace? This corresponds to the implicate order and holonomic brain-mind theories of Bohm, Miller, et al and Pribram, and is also consistent with some advanced string and quantum gravity theories.
Altered States: Breaking the universal laws of physics is quite another matter, as are as-yet-unseen, undiscovered mechanisms. But as yet we have no Hubble telescope for our inner worlds. You have to search for an invisble point by observing its effects, as we do for hyperdimensional black holes at the centers of a vast parades of light. Most of the universe is directly non-observable, including virtual vacuum fluctuation. Science has shown we operate on inner light; we are biophotonic beings. Do we also contain some kind of internal gravity or dark matter? Such notions echo the alchemical notion of "As Above, So Below." We sense there are missing dimensions, in both our inner and outer environments. Is death our personal singularity, a metaphysical gravity?
Chapel Perilous: In the early half of the 20th Century, "our universe" was no bigger than the Milky Way. There was a time, not so long ago, when science seemed to understand how the universe worked. Everything – us, the Earth, the stars and even exotic-sounding supernova – was made of atoms which were all created at time-zero: the Big Bang. In between the atoms was nothing, a void: quite literally, ‘space’. But recently things have started to unravel. The void is not devoid. There is, it seems, a lot more to the universe than meets the eye. According to the best estimates, we only really know what about 4% of it is made of. But if only 4% is made of atoms, what about the rest? The rest is made of mysterious entities about which very little is understood, with equally mysterious names: virtual photons, black holes, dark matter and dark energy. We instinctively use every means at our disposal as we grope in the dark.
Light Matters: The principle of UNIVERSAL ENERGY, the primordial field, or, as some prefer to refer to it, God is described as a model where God is the unmanifested, unformed, substance or energy of matter and consciousness. From the Heart of Nature springs the Light, and we are That. Virtual Photon Fluctuation is the Source of the photons that form and sustain our Being. We are truly Light Beings: Homo Lumen. We literally inhabit and embody a Temple of Living Light, which is interconnected with the deepest level of Cosmos. We are shiny Diamonds of Rainbow Light. We are made in the Images of its Brilliance.
- A process is a complex — a unity of distinct stages or phases. A process is always a matter of now this, now that.
- This complex has a certain temporal coherence and unity, and that processes accordingly have an ineliminably temporal dimension.
- A process has a structure, a formal generic format in virtue of which every concrete process is equipped with a shape or format.
Psychoenergetics: Non-luminous photons are upstream from luminous photons. Virtual photons compose the Zero-Point field and mark the boundary where nothing becomes something. The deep nature of the Photonic Body, the energy body, is this same Light. We all have a light-filled body and are coming to realize our truly fundamental nature. That nature is pure potential. It is our nature to express it. Its optimal state is flow.
Medicine Light: We can embody the evidence of that Brilliance. We are nothing but Brilliance; "Nothing," but Brilliance. Transformation is real-I-zation at ever-deeper levels of hyperdimensional existence. Yet psychological resistance is as real as electrical resistance. Absolute space is the womb of creation and the physics of virtual photon fluctuation reflects not only Nature, but our bioelectronic nature. Since the dawn of human history, spiritual traditions have spoken about Illumination and emanation as a creative flow of light. There are four worlds or levels of emanation (virtual photon flux/radiant energy), creation (holofield, holoflux), formation (geometrical template) and matter (electromagnetic, photonic).
Resonance: Photons are light quanta. There is an information transfer between matter and light. Photons transduce from virtual (non-ordered) to normal (ordered) photon energy through photon/antiphoton pairs. Matter is different frequencies of "frozen light," codified in the EM spectrum. Matter resonates with sound and forms patterns. All matter is a complex field phenomena. The basis of wave theory is a complex form of energetic matter. Living forms of energy are standing waves rather than "solid objects." Mass/particles are actually dynamic processes. Mass attracts photon flux from the vacuum.
Energy Body: Our biophysics is bioelectronic and electrochemical as well as quantum. Our DNA expresses and directs matter through quantum bioholography, using sound and light. We are composed of, feed on and emit light. Our body uses light to coordinate its processes. We are a flow of light...a dielectric virtual photon geyser.Only now are we learning just how literal this experience of Light is, engaging interactive mechanisms in our holistic psychophysical Being. The very core of ourselves deep within is our Photonic Body. Inner Light is the Effulgence of its Brilliance, and we are That. Our subatOMic nature is Pure Radiant Light with no separation from Cosmos. Come lift the electromagnetic Veil of Isis and gaze on that radiant Face. Show me the photons.
Mything Link: Myth is any story created to explain a phenomena. Science differs little from usual 'myth'. Postulates, theories and models are hypothetical explanations. With science the story is more complicated - there are more symbols, words, and concepts to learn just to be able to interpret the scientific stories/myths. The practices of the shamanic/priest castes of ancient societies harbored secret truths - truths told as story/myth. Truths that only the initiated could understand those truths and used them to control peoples opinions. These practices are identical with the activities of the scientist/priest caste of today - example: Stephen Hawking.
Radical Innovation: How do we apply powerful new spiritual and scientific tools to our well-being and the survival of our species? Now - The “now” is described as a reiterative process that marks the boundary between past actuality and future, quantum potentiality. This “now” is the universal conscious moment, based on the lawful properties of consciousness, and is a process that localizes time in a discontinuous manner that leads sequentially toward the future. With respect to the human brain, this localization is the end product of a process that is temporally non-local, involving the reiteration of previous nows and the anticipation of the potentiality of subsequent nows.

"SEMPER OCCULTUS": ESOTERICS - SCIENCE - INTELLIGENCE

NOETIC NERDS - Exoteric Framework; Esoteric Path
The science of mind-body-environment relationships, psychotronics is an interdisciplinary science concerned with the interactions of matter, energy, and consciousness. MRU's aims were: "to combine the efforts of leading researchers and experimenters in the multi-disciplinary and interacting fields of human development and humanistic psychology which include research involving the body, mind and those forces and phenomena acting upon the health, education and welfare of mankind. Areas of study include biocommunication, biocybernetics, biophysics, psycho-physiology, educational development, cancer research and mind-body developments." There were mixed results of success and failures in scientific investigation. Some subjects that remained underdeveloped at MRU went on to become successful elsewhere.
From the early 1970's through the 1990's, Washington DC-based MRU research was one coherent force behind the paradigm shift that led to the holism revolution, the holographic paradigm, and human potential movement. MRU explored and pioneered New Technologies, Alternative Health Modalities, Consciousness Studies, Radionics and Subtle Energies, including the human field body.
Subjects included psychotronics, quantum mind, bioholography, biophotonics, mindbody, medical meditation, nonlocal healing, futuring, EVP, radionics, stress management, resonance, psychic & paranormal phenomena, scalar physics, psychism, channeling, Kirlian photography, dreamwork, rapid scan medical diagnostics, biofeedback, ESP & hypnosis, hypnotherapy, remote viewing, plasma physics, biomedical engineering, earth energies, mind control, entanglement, UFOs and a variety of other subjects that now captivate the public imagination.
PSYCHOTRONICS: Czech term for “parapsychology” (excluding the study of survival), but embracing certain phenomena that are not now generally accepted as parapsychological. According to (the late) Larissa Vilenskaya (1983, p. 107), the term was first proposed with the analogy of “bionics” in mind, to refer to “the field dealing with the construction of devices capable of enhancing and/or reproducing certain psi phenomena (such as psychokinesis in the case of ‘psychotronic generators’ developed by Robert Pavlita) and later embraced some other phenomena.” [Dale & White, 1977] The science and discipline of how life functions includes the study of how technology interacts with the human mind, spirit, and body. Science, mathematics, philosophy, metaphysics, and esoteric studies are united through the study of psychotronics; it would also include other realities and how we interface with other dimensions of existence; psychotronic devices use radionic tuning to transmit brain waves and are used as mind amplifiers. The first Psychotronic Conference was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in June of 1973.
MRU was among the vanguard that led to a revisioning of forbidden science as well as a holistic worldview, including self-care and self-regulatory practices. The collision of spiritual science with intelligence applications led to a revisioning of the nature of reality and our own reality in terms of extraordinary human potential. It remains for us to implement what was learned for good or evil.
MRU sought to move humanity forward toward a better, sustainable future in which each individual could optimize their own potential in a healthy society. We are in an era when the death of the outworn societal system is leading toward chaos, but a new healthier system can emerge from the chaos of transformation, much like it does in individual therapy when we face our shortcomings, challenges and need for radical change. How well we learn and apply spiritual technologies and compassion may well be key in the global transformative process. At this juncture, where we are merging with our technology we must be proud to be flesh and learn to become more fully human even while we enhance our abilities and performance with hi tech innovations that make us cyborgs (h+) or immerse us in the virtualities of electronic worlds.
MRU inspired later efforts of similar nature such as Journal of Nonlocal & Remote Mental Interaction (JNLRMI) is a free online journal offering its readers a forum for the scientific investigation of our human potential. Based on current research in physics, parapsychology and complementary medicine, and drawing on the discipline of meditative arts such as qigong, the discussion revolves around the nature of space-time, causality, and individual selves; focused intentionality as a tool for shaping personal and social reality; the cultivation of mental energy and "psi" abilities; and the creation of global resonance to ensure a peaceful, meaningful and humane future for our planet.

The Paranormal Power
In 1973, the underground blockbuster PSYCHIC DISCOVERIES BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN came out and former Naval Intelligence Officer, Dr. Carl Schleicher actively wondered why the US had no comparable program in psychotronics, where esoterics meets science. He resolved to create one, recruited authors Ostrander & Schroeder, and began collecting researchers and creating experimental protocols. Thus, Mankind Research Unlimited (MRU) in Washington D.C. was born in 1973 as a private company, seeking government and corporate contracts.
The irony of this Cold War era, is that the Soviets thought we were using psychic spies, so they began their program, which in turn sparked actual US interest, based on their claims of success. Blue Sky research became of interest to both the government and private sector. It spread from R&D thinktanks into the open-minded counterculture then to the mainstream. Blue sky projects that begin as implausible can produce incremental advances that eventually result in applied technologies. It is bottom-up versus top-down research.
In the 1970's, programs were conducted at Stanford Research Institute (SRI) in Remote Viewing and in the 1980s the Army applied it militarily in the New Earth Battalion, ("Be all that you can be"), subject of the 2009 movie, "Men Who Stare At Goats." Astronaut Edgard Mitchell founded the Institute of Noetic Science (IONS) in 1973. It explores different ways of "knowing," including spiritual practices and exploration of transformative relationships. Its prominent role in Dan Brown's 2009 book, THE LOST SYMBOL, is fixing the meaning of 'noetic science' in the public imagination.The Esalan Physics Consciousness Group was founded by fellow scientists Jack Sarfatti, Nick Herbert, Saul-Paul Sirag, and Fred Alan Wolf, to investigate The Fringe by studying frontier subjects such as time travel, consciousness after death, and ESP.
MRU alumni, Uri Geller and his spoonbending captured the public imagination and led to crazes in firewalking and other demonstrations of extraordinary human potential. Few in the public understood the spectrum of psychotronics or noetics, but the old mechanical model of the mindbody relationship died and a new model based in psi, mind-body healing and subtle energies emerged aimed at developing innate human potentials and creative capacity. Boundaries between inner and outer experience collapsed.
The new consciousness paradigm opened our culture to the holistic world of complementary medicine, the human potential movement and the idea that we, too, could participate directly in the mysteries of nature. The premise was that the strangest phenomena have the most to teach us about science and ourselves. New interdisciplinary specialties in parapsychology, biophysics, accelerated learning and alternative medicine emerged. MRU was at the forefront of this cultural revolution, which promised transformational breakthroughs in personal and collective consciousness, integral healing and a new worldview.
Over the years, I've been fortunate to interview and work with many of the former associates of Dr. Carl Schleicher's thinktank and foundation:
MANKIND RESEARCH UNLIMITED (MRU) &
MANKIND RESEARCH FOUNDATION (MRF)
Rumors about this notorious organization run rife, but we are here to set the record as straight as it can be from the insiders' points of view. All agree that Dr. Schleicher was a weirdly eccentric but basically well-meaning individual who sought to help humanity with innovative programs, theories, discoveries, treatments, and products. Many accusations have been made about him in print, but not all can be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
What is known by his most familiar colleagues is included here, so you can make up your own mind. Grey areas remain in his biography, proving this man was neither entirely black nor white. He was, indeed, a shadowy individual, but his contribution was tremendous and his wide-ranging reach may never be fully revealed nor well-understood. What is clear is, based on all he knew about the world for good or ill, MRU and MRF were the culmination of whatever vision he enjoyed.

Some have linked MRU to CIA's MK ULTRA Project but it was likely closer to less sinister SRI-type paranormal and medical research though there is some overlap in project areas.
Project MK-ULTRA, 1953, CIA:
Drugs, electronics, psychotronics and electroshock
Targeting: Short rangeFrequencies: VHF HF UHF modulated at ELF Transmission and Reception: Local production
Purpose: Programming behavior, creation of "cyborg" mentalities
Effects: narcoleptic trance, programming by suggestion
Subprojects: Many.
Pseudonym: Project Artichoke
Functional Basis: Electronic Dissolution of Memory, E.D.O.M.
It was not until the middle or late 1970's that the American public became aware of a series of hitherto secret programs that had been conducted over the preceding two decades by the military and intelligence community. These extensive secret programs bore the project titles MKULTRA, MKDELTA, MKNAOMI, MKSEARCH (MK being understood to stand for Mind Kontrol), BLUEBIRD, ARTICHOKE, MONARCH and CHATTER. The principle aim of these and associated programs was the development of a reliable "programmable" assassin. Secondary aims were the development of a method of citizen control.

Mentors & Inspiration - the "Usual Suspects"

Stone & Miller
MRU conducted client-sponsored research and development for government agencies, commercial businesses, foundations and other organizations. Carl said he wanted to further and develop the works of suppressed, maligned or unappreciated researchers on the "frontiers of science". These researchers and pioneers, included: Harold S. Burr, Ph.D.; F.S.C. Northrop, Ph.D.; Leonard J. Ravitz, M.D.; Wilhelm Reich, Ph.D.;R. B. Amber, D.C.; Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama, Ph.D.; Oscar Brunler, Ph.D.; Galen Hieronymus; Gen. Henry M. Gross; Verne Cameron; John Shelley; Ambrose and Olga Woorrall, Ph.D.; Harold Sherman; Townsend Brows; R. Abrams, M. D;.Ruth Drone; Carey Reams, D.N.; Buckminster Fuller; Nikola Tesla, D.Sc.; Yogi Bhajan; Henry and John Foray; K. Raudive, Ph.D.; Ingo Swann; S. W.Tromp, Ph.D.; L. L. Vasiliev, Ph.D.; Karl von Reichenbach, Ph.D.; Walter Russell, Ph.D.; Gopi Krishna; Gustaf Stromberg; Jose Silva; Edgar Cayce; Cleve Backster.
DEEP COVER: As a valued member of the United States Psychotronics Assn., Schleicher had access to a wide range of the most innovative minds imaginable. As a former intelligence agent, he had access to classified materials and experts. Associates included Dr. Eldon A. Byrd, Dr. Stanley Krippner, Dr. Georgi Lozanov, Dr. Emanuel Revici, Christopher Bird, Stefan Possony, physicist Richard Alan Miller, various intelligence and counterintelligence operatives for NSA and Naval and Air Force Intelligence who shall remain nameless, MRF Deputy Director and microbiologist Charles W. Stone, plus a variety of regional and program directors of different projects in science, education, and alternative health. Several of them were more than colleagues and became friends while others remained personally aloof and occasionally adversarial. He claimed to have a few opponents and even enemies.
There are doubtless many more contacts who's records, correspondence and reports were lost with Schleicher's passing. Some materials were never centralized, analyzed or compiled to begin with. Large boxes of experimental data were turned over to regional personnel. The colleagues and contacts of MRU principles cover the whole field of psychotronics, parapsychology, complementary healing, intelligentsia, psychism, the underground and more. Conferences were hotbeds of exchange, as were many Washington D.C. area installations. Each of the players has their own network of associates that stretched through every area of human culture, building an incredible webwork of influence that now permeates the national and global agenda.
Many of the vanguard connected with this unique thinktank are still in operation, both publicly and privately. They continue to permeate the intelligence landscape, illuminate with revelations about the now-unclassified past and make startling predictions about the future of science and humanity. In this sense, those who live on the cutting-edge are truly the 'time-travelers' of their generations. They not only saw the future - they lived it.

Schleicher - the Man & the Mystery

"Cybernetics technology that responds to thought was in the offing. In his memo, Helms diverted attention from CIA funded research and development by alluding to the Soviets. But then they had no technology the U.S. did not also have, he conceded.
A subsequent CIA directive, summarized in a brochure on the "Cybernetic Technique" distributed by Mankind Research Unlimited (MRU), a research front in the District of Columbia, gleefully discusses the Agency's development of a "means by which information in modest rate can be fed to humans utilizing other senses than sight or hearing." The Cybernetic Technique, "based on Eastern European research," involves beaming information to individual nerve cells. The purpose, the directive states, is the enhancement of mental and physical performance. The cyborg was born. "
Perhaps the biggest accusation leveled at Dr. Schleicher is that he was the "Father of the Cyborg", the original Manchurian Candidate, developed under the direction of infamous Sidney Gottleib for MK Ultra, probably the most notorious blackops program ever developed. When this project was outed and investigated by Congress, most of the original documents were destroyed or disappeared so we may never know the true history and extent of this heinous program, which has even deeper historical roots. Several universities and disconnected researchers were involved as fronts for the program. MRU's involvement is arguable, as Schleicher categorically denied involvement.
Schleicher certainly had extensive knowledge of and interest in all the mind control techniques, technology and protocols we now know were employed. The backgrounds of known colleagues demonstrate this now. We know he included similar lines of investigation in his MRU prospectus and developmental repertoire. Yet, time and again, when confronted with the accusations he flatly denied it and was preparing to sue over allegations at the time of his death from a highly dubious source.
Even Schleicher's confidantes disagree among themselves over the extent of his possible involvement with this project and certain government agencies and which agencies. SRI has admitted CIA links publically, but Schleicher absolutely denied it. Everyone agrees Carl had done clandestine operations for the military during his active service. This ambiguity follows the man throughout his life and unconventional career. Still, if we look at the current career-tracks of his contemporaries, there is little reason to presume he was much different.
Many of Carl's colleagues, their secret projects now declassified, are edge-celebs in the 'weird science' category. They draw large crowds on the speaking circuit, talking new physics, conspiracy, remote viewing and a host of other subjects on which they offer workshops and even schools.
If he were alive today, the same would likely be true for Dr. Schleicher. In fact, the basic structure of MRF, is an original sort of alternative university/clinic offering superlearning, self-regulation techniques, and a variety of complementary rehabilitation and therapeutic treatments. As a foundation, MRF was moving away from dark ops toward the light.
Perhaps his greatest failure was not succeeding in generating a meaningful cash flow from his endeavors during his lifetime. Big commercial success eluded him, though MRF had begun incorporating franchises in other states, such as California and Texas. Others, such as the Lozonov schools of Accelerated Learning, went on to employ these techniques and actualize his vision successfully.
But in his case and that of MRF, this "California-style" self-development center or mind spa he envisioned always had a "dark edge" that can never really be ignored nor dismissed. At it's heart, it was undeniably shadowy as mankind's deepest subconscious. It must have been an ethical struggle, a battle of mind and heart, reconciling a background in coercive psychophysical tactics with a futuristic humanitarian optimism - the essentially destructive with the constructive.
But what is known or revealed can now be told of this long cold war. It will still be up to you to connect the dots and decide what it all means. Is there any direct connection between MKU->MRU->MRF?
It is necessarily only a relative truth value we can assign to any portion of the story. Marshall McLuhan points out this is nearly always the case: "The old journalism had aimed at the objectivity by 'giving both sides at once.' The new journalism seeks, rather, to immerse the reader in the total situation, using the resources of imaginative fiction to provide a multileveled experience. The new journalism is quite prepared to urge that 'news' is necessarily a form of fiction or making."
THE USUAL SUSPECTS

PSYCHOTRONICS by Martin Ebon

What is one to do with a new word, a big word, which has been in international use for nearly a decade, and whose meaning is both weighty and vague? One can't ignore it; one has to try and understand it—particularly if such a word is being bandied about in the special world of psychic phenomena, covering a spectrum from the earth-shaking to the dubious.
Such a word is Psychotronics. Officially, according to the Scientific Committee that met at the beginning of the Second International Congress on Psychotronic Research in Monte Carlo (June 30 to July 4, 1975), it is "a science which, in an interdisciplinary fashion, studies fields of interaction between people and their environment (both internal and external) and the energetic processes involved." The committee said that "Psychotronics recognizes that matter, energy and consciousness are interconnected in a way which contributes to new understanding of the energetic capabilities of human beings, life-processes and matter in general."
Is Psychotronics the same as parapsychology (or psychic research)? Well, it wants to be more than parapsychology, which is pretty well restricted to telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and psychokinesis. Psychotronic conferences have been grab bags, providing a forum for such a wide variety of talks, papers, and brief presentations that just about anyone with a way-out subject, and the necessary carfare to get to Europe, Japan, or Brazil, could be included among the psychotronists. Dr. Zdenek Rejdak of Czechoslovakia, President of the International Association for Psychotronic Research, worked closely with Dr. Stanley Krippner of the Humanistic Psychology Institute, San Francisco.
Psychotronics was officially born at the first international congress in Prague in 1973. It provided a meeting ground for researchers from all over the world, including Czechoslovakia, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union (although never East Germany). Russian participation has been erratic. At the Prague meeting, several Soviet researchers originally scheduled to attend the congress never arrived; in their stead, a group of well-informed Russians came to Prague under the guidance of a KGB man. Other congresses have had Soviet participants representing relatively low-key fields of study, such as dowsing and various medical areas.
The word Psychotronics is an interesting hybrid, well chosen to combine the respectable but wide field of psychology with that of materialist science. The word, introduced by the Czech contingent of the association, provides a label acceptable to Marxist doctrine while fitting into the scientific vocabulary of the West. Traditionally, from its Greek and Latin origins, the word psyche stands for soul or spirit. In Psychotronics it forms a word that ends with two syllables associated with modern technology, as in "electronics."
Several conferences on Psychotronics have taken place since the Prague meeting, but they lacked the air of adventure and enthusiasm that marked that original congress. Subsequent conferences had none of the cosmopolitan camaraderie of the earlier encounter; the later get-togethers also suffered from over-diversity, large helpings of amateurish research, and the relative prominence of cultist and faddist ideas.
Still, among the large number of participants there have always been men and women who brought imagination in research design, careful control of experiments, and solid standards of analysis to psychotronic work. Among the most enigmatic, challenging, and puzzling experiments were those presented by Robert Pavlita and his daughter, Jana Pavlitova, of Czechoslovakia. East European researchers have often bracketed the Pavlita demonstrations in apparent psychokinesis (or telekinesis) with those presented by Nina Kulagina in Leningrad. At the Second International Congress of Psychotronic Research, held in Monte Carlo, Mr. Pavlita presented a brief paper, "Vertical Biomagnet Field of Generator," designed to show "the influence of a biomagnetic field" on a "generator" that is contained within a cylinder.
The Pavlita enigma is compounded by outsiders' ignorance of what, precisely, is contained within the cylinder, which is 600 millimeters high and 60 millimeters in diameter. At the Second congress (June 30 to July 4, 1975) Pavlita reported that materials placed inside the field above the generator "appear to be magnetic," although they are actually non-magnetic. He also reported that the material was "without polarization," meaning that, when placed within the "field," the materials were "attracted to the southern as well as to the northern pole of a magnet," although they did not display the same "affinity" to the same magnet when placed outside the generator's field.
Pavlita claimed that he managed to get the generator "biologically excited" by the power of his mind.To quote the congress translation of Mr. Pavlita's conclusion, "This experiment shows that biological energy can, in cooperation with a generator, [be] induced in [created within] a material which is not magnetically active, a property manifested by this material reacting to a magnetic field." He used a wooden or glass rod to achieve the magnetizing effect. Jana Pavlitova, in a parallel paper, "Probe Controlled by Impulses from the Brain," said specifically that brain impulses were used to influence the "magnetic polarity of the working end of the probe" (presumably the wooden or glass rod), making it "biologically pre-excited." She described how Pavlita, or another "inducer," can go about
influencing the object:
"The experimenter stands facing the magnetic needle, so that its north pole is directed toward him. In his right hand he holds the probe [object]. Another, quite arbitrarily chosen, person determines which is to be the northern polarity. He will say, for example, that the lower hemisphere should have the southern polarity and the upper hemisphere the northern polarity. The experimenter will then place the probe on his forehead and, through cerebral impulses, will change the probe's polarity as requested.
"To make sure that the probe has acquired the requested polarity, it can be moved close to the magnetic needle. If then, at the request of another person, the probe should be given the opposite polarity, the experimenter will bring about the change of polarity by using the same method, with the difference that, this time, when placing the probe on his forehead, he controls the brain impulses in another way."
If all this sounds confusing - it is! The modus operandi of the Pavlitas remains unclear, but it is Psychotronics on its most basic, even primitive level; it is Psychotronics in miniature, certainly when compared to some of the monumental psychotronic feats that have been claimed elsewhere.
The Monte Carlo congress also received a paper from Moscow physicist-parapsychologist Victor G. Adamenko, then on the staff of the National Institute of Normal Psychology. Dr. Adamenko's paper, "Psychoenergetic and Extramotor Functions of an Organism," was a theoretical analysis rather than a report on experimental work. Adamenko, who received his doctorate in physics in Minsk, rather than in Moscow - and only after much delay, allegedly because of his unorthodox interest in psychic studies - had done considerable research with Alia Vinogradava, a vivacious practitioner of homemade psychotronics, who later became his wife. (They separated in 1979, after a few years of marriage.)
Vinogradava had seen a film of Kulagina's experiments in moving small objects by a force that looked like mind-power (psychokinesis, biomagnetism, whatever the suitable label), and proceeded to imitate it. For several years, a visit with Victor and Alia was de rigeur for Western parapsychologists on the Moscow-Leningrad circuit. Dr. Krippner has described what appears to have been a delightful social event as well as a fascinating demonstration of - of what? of psychokinesis? of static electricity (electrostatics)? of a combination of both? In his autobiographical book, Song of the Siren, Krippner gives this account:
"Adamenko placed a Havana cigar tube on the surface of the table. Vinogradava put her right hand to the side of the tube and it began to move across the table. When it reached the table's far side, she shifted her hand to the other side and it moved back. The tube continued to roll from edge to edge for several minutes; each time it reached the far side of the table, Vinogradava shifted her hand to the other side of the table and the tube moved back. "Adamenko then removed the cigar tube and substituted a heavier tube made from aluminum. She preceded her attempts to move this tube by picking it up and rubbing it briefly - indicating to me that she was initiating an electrostatic charge. This charge would cause the tube to repel from her hand - through an electrostatic effect rather than PK [psychokinesis]. The aluminum tube rolled across the table in choppy movements, whereas the cigar tube had moved smoothly."
Krippner also reported that he, himself, had successfully imitated Vinogradava's demonstration. One of his associates at the Dream Laboratory at Maimonides Medical Clinic in Brooklyn, N.Y., Felicia Parise, demonstrated similar actions in 1971 and 1972; these included moving a plastic bottle away from her and deflecting the needle of a small compass.
In the paper he presented to the Monte Carlo congress, Dr. Adamenko speculated that, in certain psychotronic experiments, the human brain acts as "a transformer of psychic energy into the physicochemical one." He added that such "miniature" psychokinesis may be interpreted as "an influence of the Psyche over the neurons proper; and neurons, in turn, set muscles in motions." He added:
"Sometimes, a rather strong field is being generated which produces an extra-motorio (i.e., with no muscles involved) influence over target objects. That is to say, we are discussing here a quantitative - and not a qualitative - difference in the transformation of the psychical energy into the physicochemical one. Under the circumstances discussed, we can assume it to be one of the basic properties of life."
The crucial question in this type of psychotronic experimentation and theory is "If the mind can influence the movement of a small object, can it be so directed or amplified as to move a much larger object?" In other words, if it is the "quality" of psychokinesis or biomagnetism that matters, rather than the "quantity" (size, weight, nature) of the object involved, can the human mind - metaphorically speaking - move mountains?
Precisely these questions have prompted some analysts to speculate or claim that Soviet researchers have managed to harness huge psychotronic powers; that the demonstrations that visitors have seen in Moscow, Leningrad, and elsewhere are relatively insignificant, designed to distract outsiders from more substantial achievements of psychic technology in the USSR. The foremost spokesman for this view is former U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Thomas E. Bearden, of Huntsville, Alabama. Bearden, now retired, is the author of The Excalibur Briefing (1980), which details his views of Soviet psychotronic weaponry and related topics.
In Bearden's opinion, Soviet specialists engineered the spectacular sinking of the U.S. nuclear submarine Thresher, lost in the North Atlantic on April 10, 1963. The submarine exploded for no apparent reason, at a depth of 300 feet. Lost were 112 officers and men, as well as 17 civilian technicians. The Thresher had been in radio contact with its escort vessel, Skylark, but its transmissions terminated with a fragmentary message.
The Yugoslav magazine Vikend (Weekend) published an interview with Moscow parapsychologist Barbara Ivanova in its issue of September 4, 1981. She was asked: "There have been rumors that one Soviet psychic, Nina Kulagina, using psychotronic energy, destroyed the American nuclear submarine 'Thresher.' Do you know whether this is true?" She replied: "I know nothing about this, but I think that, under certain conditions, psi forces could have destructive capabilities beyond those of nuclear weaponry." The magazine's interviewer, A. Bele, interspersed that he felt Ivanova had "exaggerated," and she quickly qualified her remarks as follows: "The nature of psi has not been sufficiently studied to know to what degree it can be used for negative purposes."
Writing in the periodical Energy Unlimited, Lt. Col. Bearden suggested that it might have been possible to use a "hyper-spatial amplifier" to attack the Thresher, guided by an image of the submarine, such as a photograph. Bearden, whose writings appear in the quarterly journal Specula, published by the American Association of Meta-Science, uses a highly technical vocabulary and numerous charts to convey his ideas. In Bear-den's view,
"The Soviets have had a massive program in the psychotronics area for about thirty years. By all indications, the program proceeds at a highly classified level. In my own analytical opinion, they have developed a rather mind-boggling weaponry, based on seven major undertakings, each of them on the scale of our Manhattan Project, which created the atomic bomb. Along with this, they are engaged in a massive deception plan - a purely military operation, which is standard practice for such an undertaking. The disinformation program concerning bio-information, bio-energetics, etc., is part of the overall deception operation."
The idea that psychic effects might either be used for positive aims, such as healing, or negative aims, such as warfare, is echoed by Bearden in Excalibur Briefing. He asserts that Pavlita has "admitted that his devices could be scaled up to serve as weapons - unfortunately, every tool can be used for either good or evil." Bearden also wrote that Pavlita's daughter had been injured by one of her father's devices so that he "had to work feverishly" to build a second one, capable of undoing the damage of the first.
Bearden added: "The loose information net of which I am a part has recently learned that Pavlita is now in charge of a secret project that has succeeded in building two weapons, one of about two-hundred-mile range and the other of unlimited range. No further details on the weapons are available. Pavlita is a pioneering genius, and it is hoped that he will eventually release the secret of his psychotronic devices to the world for use in the healing arts and other beneficial sciences."
Psychotronics, even as defined by its proponents of the International Association for Psychotronic Research, is difficult enough to comprehend for the outsider. When its elusive capabilities are linked with the mysterious sinking of a submarine, it becomes even more complex and unimaginable. Bearden presented two papers, in absentia, to the Third International Congress on Psychotronic Research, which took place in Tokyo in 1977. They dealt with "Solution of the Fundamental Problem of Quantum Mechanics" and "Photon Quenching of the Paranormal (Time) Channel." An article dealing briefly with "Soviet Psychotronic Weapons" appeared in Specula (March-June 1978), linking U.S. research in the 1920s with current Pavlita claims and the assumed existence of an array of powerful, novel Soviet "PT weapons" (PT stands for "psychotronics").
Bearden assumed that "the Soviets plan to first launch a conventional attack, then choose the time to use the PT weapons in a blinding display of power that will totally paralyze the West." He believes that "they plan to use the same scenario we used on Japan with our atomic bombs in World War II. That is, after all, where they got the idea in the first place." He is of the opinion that a "third generation of Soviet PT weapons are already on site."
Well, it would be nice to assume that all this is only the work of a retired army officer's vivid imagination. Kulagina's matchboxes and Vinogradava's empty cigar tubes represent a far more innocent psychotronic target than do submarines, planes, or missile installations. Psychotronics, even if the word can't be accurately defined, seems to have potentials ranging from the trivial and eccentric to the fiercely destructive.
A U.S. Army study of the factors that can influence the stamina and performance of field artillerymen specifically noted the potential impact of psychotronics. The study, published as a partly unclassified document in early 1981, was presented under the title Fire Support Mission Area Analysis (FSMAA). It provided an overall view of the factors that contribute to "the total capacity of our fighting forces," first in terms of purely military strength (weapon power and combat organization); then in soldier skills (effectiveness of individuals and units); and finally in the will of the individual soldier (his cohesion, courage, commitment, heart, and spirit).
In its analysis of the soldier's personal will to fight, the study refers to "cryptomental matters" as forming part of the link that creates the human dimension in combat performance. Together with the relationship between men and equipment and what the study calls "human chemistry matters," it singles out cryptomental issues as dealing with sparsely studied "hidden" mental capacities and potential. The study adds:
"This area attempts to direct attention to relatively unexplored, unexploited human technologies in such areas as influence, communications, thinking, learning and stress reduction. Discussions of this area represent an excursion into a largely unknown realm which appears to possess significant military application."
The study emphasized that man-machine interface, human chemistry, and cryptomental matters are not separated by "denned, persistent boundaries." It did note, however, that "these categorizations are operational and do contribute to an understanding of how greater potential force readiness can be attained." The combined human dimensions factors are, according to the study, required in making decisions as to "when and where it will make the greatest contribution to force readiness."
While the study dealt specifically with field artillery performance, its basic premises and conclusions could well be applied to other segments of the armed forces, including air and naval units. Specifically, the study sought to establish the factors that influence what field artillerymen, individually and collectively, "are doing and what they can do." In order to narrow the gap between "actual and potential force readiness," the study separated one key issue from each of the three subareas: standardization, fatigue factors - and psychotronics.
Speaking of psychotronics, the study noted that the term refers to "a union between mind and matter - a form of energy about which little is apparently known in the United States, but which appears to have significant military application and implication." The study added: "Open source literature describes the significant amount of research that has been completed by Warsaw Pact countries during the past decade in the area of psychic phenomena, of which psychotronics is one element. The Soviet Union, in particular, appears to have made significant progress toward developing psychotronic weapons. Psychotronics can refer to the projection or transmission of mental energy by individual or collective mental discipline and control, or by an energy-emitting device - a kind of mind jammer."
The study suggested that field artillery may be subjected to forms of psychotronic bombardment, or mind-jamming, which could seriously affect its combat performance. It contained this caution:
"While considering the subject of Psychotronics, it is essential that people remain open-minded and recognize that the technology, physics and mathematics involved are real, and not matters of the occult and supernatural. Details of Psychotronics offer a 'physics of metaphysics' - a fully developed theory of paranormal phenomena that unites physics and psychology."
The study cited source material to the effect that "supernormal happenings arise from laws of the mind, and that phenomena like extrasensory perception and telepathy are not as out of the ordinary and inexplicable as they are generally considered to be." It cited telepathy as "seen by the Soviets as being a possible means of willing human communication, and possible imposition, over great distances without the need for conventional communication devices. Additionally, the Soviets apparently believe that an individual can be trained to develop telepathic ability."
The study also referred to remote-viewing as "another exploration into the capacities of the human brain," which "investigates the possibility of leaving one's physical body to travel elsewhere with a mental energy, unseen and unheard." It adds:
"The Soviets, no doubt, recognize the potential of being able to be present outside of a person's physical body. Results of these and other experiments are far from complete or conclusive; however, the Warsaw Pact countries continue to conduct research. Although specifics are unknown, it can be reasonably expected that the Soviet Union will exploit any military application that may emerge from their research."
The Fire Support Mission Area Analysis specifically cited a scholarly anthology, The Iceland Papers (1977), "a compilation of treatises that provide scientific support for paranormal and psychic events." The study said that the work "presents scientific support and validation of paranormal occurrences that are most commonly considered to be supernatural or occult. The scientific validation of paranormal events has added credibility and acceptability to an area thought to be void of rational explanation; and, more importantly, it has opened the door for assessing the military potential of specific psychic capabilities."
In analyzing the role of psychotronics, the study said that "the key deficiency in this area is the apparent absence of an organized U.S. military or government effort to investigate the offensive and defensive potention of psychotronics. This deficiency is especially significant in light of the reported research by the Soviet Union in the area of Psychotronic Warfare." The analysis then narrowed down to an examination of various factors that affect the functioning of howitzer crews. (A howitzer, employed by field artillery, is a long-barreled cannon that uses shells of medium velocity, usually by high trajectory; it is commonly utilized against targets that cannot be reached by flat trajectories.)
The study concluded with the observation that "the area of psychotronics" offers a significant research pportunity" for the U.S. government to "explore the potential military application of psychotronics." It suggested that "U.S. resources should be organized and directed at a near-term understanding of the defensive techniques that can be employed against psychotronic energy," while, "on a longer term basis, a program appears necessary to study the offensive potential of psychotronics."
An appendix to the FSMAA, a paper on "The New Mental Battlefield" by Lieutenant Colonel John B. Alexander, Ph.D., surveyed the military potential of psychotronics, as well as that of other psychic capacities. He stated that "it is clear" that psychotronics' "possibility for employment as weaponry has been explored." Specifically, he wrote, "what we are discussing are weapons systems that operate on the power of the mind, and whose capacity for lethality has already been demonstrated."
Alexander suggested that psychotronic weapons have a destructive potential, so that, "certainly with development, they will be able to induce illness or death at little or no risk to the operator." He added that "range may be a present problem, but this will probably be overcome, if it hasn't already." In his view, "The psychotronic weapon would be silent, difficult to detect, and would require only a human operator as a power source." The author concluded:
"The impact psychotronic weaponry and other paranormal applications will have in the future is difficult to determine at this time. Some suggest that whoever makes the first major breakthrough in the field will have a quantum leap over his opponent, similar to sole possession of nuclear weapons.
Clearly, advances in any of the aforementioned areas will add new dimensions to the battlefiel
Specifically, the study sought to establish the factors that influence what field artillerymen, individually and collectively, "are doing and what they can do." I. CHAOS AND POSTMODERN PSYCHOTHERAPY
CHAOSOPHY:
An Imaginal Perspective on the Nature of Reality,
Consciousness, Experience, and Perception; Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: Our notions about ourselves and the nature of the world (worldview) around us are filtered through our prejudices about "the way things work". We never apprehend reality directly--only our world-simulation which is congealed from the convergence of our sensory input channels and the information-creating processes of chaotic neural activity. The brain filters and creates reality. Brains are chaotic systems which create internal perceptual patterns that substitute directly for sensory stimuli. These stimuli are evoked potentials or evoked fields--standing waves in the brain. Imagination has the ability to induce real-time changes in the psychophysical being. Imagination embodies the power of transformation. It may be accessed through obvious imagery, such as dreams, vision, and other sensory analogs, or viewed directly in symptoms, behavior patterns, emotional patterns, mental concepts, and spiritual beliefs. The imaginal process is our primary experience and it permeates and conditions all facets of human life. During experiential psychotherapy, the sensory-motor cortex system is influenced through imagination. Psyche affects substance at the most fundamental level, through chaotic neural activity.To go directly to the article click here.
CHAOS CONSCIOUSNESS IN PSYCHOTHERAPY:
An Experiential Approach and Application to Dreamwork, Creativity, and Healing;
Graywolf Fred Swinney and Iona Miller, 1991
ABSTRACT: Experiential therapy sessions and mysticism demonstrate that as we journey deeper and deeper into the psyche we eventually encounter a state characterized either as "chaotic" or void of images. In a therapeutic context, chaos is experienced as a consciousness state--the ground state. This state is related to healing, dreams, and creativity. Shamanic approaches to healing involve co-consciousness states which lead to restructuring both physical and emotional-mental senses of self. Dreams, creativity, and healing arise from this undifferentiated "chaotic consciousness." Dreamhealing uses images as portals for consciousness journeys to facilitate transformations ranging from mood alteration to profound physiological changes. Imagery (virtual experience) affects the immune system, activating psychosomatic forces, such as the placebo effect. Chaos-oriented consciousness journeys suggest these states reflect complex phase space, fractal patterns, strange attractors, "the butterfly effect," sensitivity, complex feedback loops, intermittency, and other general dynamical aspects suggested by chaos theory. More than an experiential process, this is a philosophy of treatment--"Chaosophy."To go directly to the article click here.
CHAOS AS THE UNIVERSAL SOLVENT: Re-Creational Ego Death in Psychedelic Consciousness;
Iona Miller, 1992
ABSTRACT: There is a generic process in nature and consciousness which dissolves and regenerates all forms. The essence of this transformative, morphological process is chaotic--purposeful yet inherently unpredictable holistic repatterning. The Great Work of the art of alchemy is the creation of the Philosopher's Stone, a symbol of wholeness and integration. The liquid form of the Stone, called the Universal Solvent, dissolves all old forms like a rushing stream, and is the self-organizing matrix for the rebirth of new forms. It is thus a metaphor or model for the dynamic process of transformation, ego death and re-creation. The alchemical operation SOLUTIO, called "the root of alchemy," corresponds with the element water. It implies a flowing state of consciousness, "liquification" of consciousness, a return to the womb for rebirth, a baptism or healing immersion in the vast ocean of deep consciousness. It facilitates feedback via creative regression: de-structuring, or destratification by immersion in the flow of psychic imagery through identification with more and more primal forms or patterns--a psychedelic, expanded state. Chaos Theory provides a metaphorical language for describing the flowing dynamics of the chaotic process of psychological transformation.To go directly to the article click here.
CHAOS THEORY AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPLEXES: Jung's Notion of the Complex as "Strange Attractor"
Iona Miller, 1991
That people should succumb to these eternal images is entirely normal, in fact it is what these images are for. They are meant to ATTRACT, to convince, to fascinate, and to overpower. They are created out of the primal stuff of revelation. --C.G. Jung, COLLECTED WORKS, Vol. 9
If the charge of one (or more) of the "nodal points" becomes so powerful that it "magnetically" (acting as a nuclear cell") ATTRACTS everything to itself and so confronts the ego with an alien entity...that has become autonomous
--then we have a complex. --Jolande Jacobi, COMPLEX, ARCHETYPE, AND SYMBOL

THE CREATIVE FLOW OF MEANING: An Introduction to Nonunitarian Philosophy;
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: In nonunitarian, discontinuous transformations, a system opens itself to novelty and potentiality by dissolving into a state of nonlocal communion with the whole and reforms unconditioned by the past. Nonunitary transformation is based in the dissolution of all forms and structures, and creative emergence of unconditioned creativity--metamorphosis. In this organic model of multiple universes and states of consciousness, everything is involved in a pattern of continuous rebirth, and everything is the manifestation of the underlying creative potential, transcending physical and spiritual boundaries.To go directly to the article click here.
II. POLYPHASIC CONSCIOUSNESS
THE UN-NAMED DREAM AND PARALLEL UNIVERSES: A Multistate Paradigm;
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: In the Creative Consciousness Process (CCP), participants frequently encounter typical archetypal imagery at the threshold of chaotic consciousness. One of these reiterating images is that of grayness, black/whiteness, amorphousness. There are analogous reports from mystics and physicists about a fundamental cloudiness to the perception of ultimate realities. Relevant associations include parallel universes, the scientific notion of "observer effect", and the mystical notion of "the witness" or observer self.To go directly to the article click here.
THE VARIETIES OF VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE: Virtual Realities Beyond the Dialogical Self;
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: The basis of the human psyche seems to be a collective of selves--a multimind in a multiverse. Independent and autonomous, they relate with one another mostly unknown to the outer awareness. The extreme form of splintering seen in Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) simply reflects an extreme form of multiplicity with conflicting perspectives. The "multistate paradigm" of human nature extends toward a psychology and spirituality that is polytheistic, even pantheistic. Dialogue is a form of imagery which creates and sustains a worldview through the means of imaginal conversations. Within the fabric of multiple centers or vortices within the psyche, an on-going dialogue emerges which ranges from selftalk (ego to ego), through "group" discussion (ego with subpersonalities), to spiritual dialogue (ego with transpersonal entities). Beyond the dialogical realm lies the unspeakable experience (untranslatable) of the Void or Clear Light, the realm of archetypal light and sound as pure consciousness. The "Word" helps us create and define reality. Conversation as well as observation defines our reality. Dialogue of the self with its various conscious and unconscious forms creates a series of "virtual realities" which form the basis of self-simulation and world-simulation. These forms are limitless in number, far beyond the classic archetypes such as persona, anima/animus, etc, suggesting the notion of "radical pluralism."To go directly to the article click here.
DREAM WAVE: Primal Imagery in the Creative Consciousness Process;
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: Consciousness appears as the urge toward manifestation or embodiment and an equal but opposite urge toward formlessness. This interplay creates the imaginal flux of representational and nonrepresentational perception. These clashing currents in the stream of consciousness create "standing waves" of informational content which may be unfolded from their implicate to explicate state through direct participation in that stream. The premise of the consciousness journey is that this "dream wave" may be followed backward/forward toward more primal representations into the nonrepresentational mode of perception. Certain typical, recurrent patterns occur at the further limits of these journeys. Particular phenomena are reiterated at the threshold of chaos--the threshold of dissolution--including amorphous clouds, black holes in psychic space, spirals and vortices, as well as dead and fertile voids.To go directly to the article click here.
THE UNBORN DREAM: Thriving on Chaos
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: If the implicate order is analogous to the frequency domain, as Bohm-Pribram have shown, the image/object domain unfolds from this invisible reality. That which is enfolded within the undivided whole is the "Bornless One," the unborn dream of our infinite possibilities. Unity-in-diversity is the direct experiential/existential goal of the Creative Consciousness Process in its experimental form. Complex dynamics is implicated in the energetic translation of the "waves of unborn nothingness" which constitute the unborn dream, the relentless flow of consciousness in search of embodiment and formlessness. Consciousness journeys are the "reading" or explication of the formless domain of Spirit. Following Nature to whatever abysses she leads, they reveal a way of thriving on chaos.To go directly to the article click here.
HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE PARADOX? Chaos Theory and Fuzzy Philosophy;
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: The notion of paradox comes from a consciousness conditioned to think in terms of opposites, dualistic paradox. Self-referential paradox feeds back and annihilates itself. Such bivalence (binary logic: this or that; true or false; black or white) can be superceded by multivalent consciousness which perceives in terms of degrees. Multivalence more accurately reflects the complex dynamics of consciousness. As in the case of fractal generation, solutions are not found in terms of this or that, but in terms of degrees of fractional transformation, relationships. Fuzzy philosophy is based on acceptance of degrees of truth, the "grayness" of most propositions (truth values), the fractional solutions of fuzzy logic. Human consciousness is a self-referential system which embodies this principle of a connection between logic and chaos, in holistic ("whole brain") awareness.To go directly to the article click here.
III. THE HOLOGRAPHIC PARADIGM
THE HOLOGRAPHIC PARADIGM AND CCP: Explication, Ego Death, and Emptiness;
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: David Bohm suggests psychological "atom-smashing" as a way of radically destructuring the ego, opening it to wider experience of the undivided whole. The holographic paradigm is one of reciprocal enfolding and unfolding of patterns of information (explication). The stream of images in CCP functions analogously to the unfolding of the stream of consciousness and the enfolding and de-structuring of the ego (ego death). Consciousness and matter share the same essence; their difference is one of degree of subtlety or density. "Emptiness" is an integral aspect of mind/matter. Chaos theory links all these elements as aspects of the archetypal healing process, which is facilitated by CCP.To go directly to the article click here.
FRACTAL THERAPY: Information Theory and the Vortex of Internal Structuring Process
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: Because of its very nature a chaotic system cannot be decomposed. If consciousness is pure information it is not limited to physical form; its patterning may emerge from chaotic dynamics operating at the quantum level, where the "no-thing" of pure information becomes a structured "some-thing," through intentionality coupled with chaotic determinism (self-organized emergent order). The so-called "software of consciousness" is unlike the matter and energy of classical understanding, but exerts a measureable effect on the physical world, apparently through quantum chaos. Fractal therapy allows us to penetrate deeply into the psyche--into the vortex of the internal structuring process--through progressively de-structuring patterns of organization. The undecomposable level of chaotic consciousness is experienced as the pure, unconditioned imprint of the whole, resulting in a new primal self image and sense of relationship to the greater whole which emerges through nonunitary transformation.To go directly to the article click here.
A HOLOGRAPHIC CONCEPT OF REALITY
Richard Alan Miller, Burt Webb, Darden Dickson, 1973-1993 ABSTRACT: The organization of any biological system is established by a complex electrodynamic field which is, in part, determined by its atomic physiochemical components and which, in part, determines the behavior and orientation of these components. The holographic model of reality emerging from this principle may provide a scientific explanation of psychoenergetic phenomena.To go directly to the article click here.
EMBRYONIC HOLOGRAPHY:
An Application of the Holographic Concept of Reality;
Richard Alan Miller and Burt Webb, 1973-1993 [Presented at the Omniversal Symposium, California State College at Sonoma, Saturday, September 29, 1973. Reprinted in the journal Psychedelic Monographs and Essays, Vol. 6, 1993. 137-156. Boynton Beach, FL.]To go directly to the article click here.
SELF-ORGANIZATION IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS:
The Holistic Patterning Process of Chaos and Antichaos
Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: Self-organization is an emergent property of systems and organisms, including human beings. Chaotic dynamics governs the emergence of this new order from apparent randomness. The deep coherence of the overall process implies hidden or missing information for holistic patterning within the apparent "noise" or randomness of chaotic processes. RELATIVITY OF BODY AND SOUL; Iona Miller, 1992
...we are not concerned here with a philosophical, much less a religious, concept of the soul, but with the psychological recognition of the existence of a semiconscious psychic complex, having partial autonomy of function, [anima]. C.G. Jung, TWO ESSAYS
The soul loses its psychological vision in the abstract literalisms of the spirit as well as in the concrete literalisms of the body. James Hillman, RE-VISIONING PSYCHOLOGY
Psychic and somatic symptoms express the soul's painful wounds and obstructions. The rational mind is incapable of deciding what is bet for the soul. The mind can discover what is needed only by listening to and reflecting upon the subtle movement of the soul as it expresses itself in bodily sensations, feelings, emotions, images, ideas, and dreams. VIRTUAL THERAPY: Speculations on a New Modality
Iona Miller and Burt Webb, 1992
ABSTRACT: The advent of virtual reality technology opens up a whole new dimension for therapy. Psychotherapist and client may enter an electronic simulation which allows them both to occupy a shared imaginal space. The parameters of the system and environment can be programmed to display specific archetypal imagery which is known to influence the deep psyche. The ability to interact with the system provides a means of intervention and transformation. The therapist, as electronic shaman, either guides or follows the client's process. He chooses from a repertoire of archetypal encounters those images which fit most closely, thus amplifying the "cybernaut's" imagery experience. Distinctions of inner vs. outer become experientially moot. Therapeutic interventions, impossible in consensus reality, become readily available without standard ethical considerations. The shaman's flight into the netherworld to retrieve a "lost" soul becomes a literal reality experienced as a co-conscious journey. The discernment and non directive attitude of the therapist insures that the client will not be traumatized. The perception of universal and personal metaphors is enhanced and amplified, rather than imposed. As in hypnosis, the client maintains the possibility of "escape" back into consensus reality, simply by closing their eyes. To go directly to the article click here.
THE GUIDE WAVE: Synchronized Chaos and Co-Consciousness
by Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: In a Bohm/de Broglie theory, the guide wave (or pilot wave) governs or patterns the whole quantum experiment--the observer as well as the observed. This nonlocal guiding principle also acts as a morphogenetic field for the structuring of atoms and cells. An analogous structuring of free flowing energy appears in the stream of consciousness. The on-going stream of imagery manifests the process of co-evolution which is not distinct from our psychophysical being. Imagery and the entity it shapes are not separate. They are different dimensions of the same energy. The guide wave is something of a cosmic memory which holistically conditions the present moment through complex feedback and feedforward phenomena. The guide wave maintains specific forms as new moments unfold. Research shows that synchronized chaos may be engineered through perturbation and operational amplification, creating flexibility among many different behaviors. Isolated chaotic systems cannot synchronize, but parts can synchronize through supporting subsystems, like a phase-locked loop. Thus, chaotic signals are generated which drive stable periodic behavior. The presence of chaos appears to be an advantage in controlling dynamic behavior, leading to flexibility and stability. Just as small disturbances in chaotic systems radically alter their behavior ("butterfly effect"), tiny adjustments can stabilize behavior. To go directly to the article click here.
V. INFORMATION THEORY
AN INFORMATION THEORY OF THE UNIVERSE AND NEURODYNAMICS:
The Interface of Consciousness and Information Quanta
by Iona Miller, 1993.
ABSTRACT: Information Theory has been employed to model dynamic processes ranging from the entire universe (Ed Fredkin, 1988) to human neurological functioning (Karl Pribram,1991). Pribram's research on human perception has culminated in a theory of neurodynamics based on nonlocal cortical processing--holonomy. According to Pribram, "space-time and spectrum provide the dimensions within which information occurs." The information theory of the universe models bits of information as fundamental, while neurodynamics conceives of quanta of information. Holonomy supercedes general systems theory and thermodynamics as models of brain/mind/consciousness. To go directly to the article click here.
ODE TO WHITE NOISE AND STRANGE LOOPS The Concepts of Form and Intentionality
in Information Theory, by Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: Physics deals with the energetic aspect of the world. Information theory deals with the communicational aspect, the message from the external world (universe) to the individual and his reactions. Information is a quantity whose value depends on its usability, what it adds to a representation--its originality, unforeseeability. The general study of information theory can be applied to perception in the human receptor. The emergence of imagery from white noise--the figure/ground distinction of Gestalt--is one implication relevant to process-oriented therapy and certain philosophical considerations about the nature of chaos and order in reality. Wave fronts exhibit a fractal nature, including sound waves. Meaningful sound, such as music and speech lies in between total white noise and the monotone of indefinitely held pure notes We tend to take the constant imaginal flux of the stream of consciousness for granted, rarely focusing our conscious awareness in that direction. But we can experientially "decode" the universal "message" it contains for us in terms of potential holistic repatterning. No universal message is really "transmitted" because it is a nonlocal quantum phenomenon of consciousness. There is no channel or receiver, but the classical ego interprets it that way--as information. To go directly to the article click here.
IMAGE PROCESSING: The Fractal Nature of Emergent Consciousness
by Iona Miller, 1993
ABSTRACT: Transformations can be effected within the autonomous stream of imagery, through imagery processing via experiential therapy. The essence of this transformative process is revealed in the fractal nature of imagery and symbols--i.e. their ability to encode, enfold, or compress the informational content of the whole. Strange attractors condition and govern the transformative process through the complexity of information in dynamic flow. Emergent consciousness is not an epiphenomenon of the brain. Rather it is the transformational process of non-manifest, undifferentiated consciousness emerging into manifestation. To go directly to the article click here.

An Experiential Approach and Application to Dreamwork, Creativity, and Healing;
CHAOS AS THE UNIVERSAL SOLVENT: Re-Creational Ego Death in Psychedelic Consciousness;

THE CREATIVE FLOW OF MEANING: An Introduction to Nonunitarian Philosophy;
THE UN-NAMED DREAM AND PARALLEL UNIVERSES: A Multistate Paradigm;
THE VARIETIES OF VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE: Virtual Realities Beyond the Dialogical Self;
DREAM WAVE: Primal Imagery in the Creative Consciousness Process;
HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE PARADOX? Chaos Theory and Fuzzy Philosophy;
THE HOLOGRAPHIC PARADIGM AND CCP: Explication, Ego Death, and Emptiness;
